OneYukti vs Tally: the books, or the books and the rest of the company

This is Tally's home turf, and it shows. Connected GST files and uploads returns from within TallyPrime, native TDS and TCS deduction with challan generation, and auto-reconciled GSTR-2A/2B data are all in the core product. Two decades of refinement against India's changing GST rules is not something a newer system can claim to match on day one.

Yukti covers the same ground: GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B prepared from your books, e-invoicing with IRN, e-way bills, TDS and TCS, and GSTR-2A/2B matching. What differs is everything around it: the return is prepared from the same books that hold your stock, your sales orders and your purchase orders, so the numbers agree before your CA sees them. Your CA works in the system as a light user, free.

TallyPrime is, at its core, a desktop Windows application. That is a deliberate choice with real benefits: it runs fully offline by default, which matters where the internet is unreliable, and it feels fast because there is no network round trip for every entry. Remote browser access and real-time multi-device sync exist, but through the separate paid TallyPrime Cloud Access add-on, and there is no native mobile app.

Yukti runs in the browser from any device, whether we host it or you do, with native mobile apps for sales and field work. The trade is that Yukti needs a connection to the cloud or to your own server; it does not run offline the way Tally does. For one accountant on one desktop, that barely matters. For a warehouse, a shop floor and a sales team entering data the same day, it matters a lot. If you need to bill with the internet down, Tally does that and Yukti does not.

Tally's inventory and payroll modules are core to the product and they work. Manufacturing stops at Bill of Materials and manufacturing journals for basic assembly, with no production scheduling or shop-floor routing, and there is no CRM and no project management. That is the boundary of the category, not a fault: the stock, the sales and the purchase orders end up in spreadsheets and WhatsApp, and someone keeps them aligned by hand.

In Yukti the same books hold stock across godowns and your own shop, sales orders, purchase orders, CRM, manufacturing with production scheduling, staff (attendance, leave, expenses) and projects. Bank reconciliation, invoice matching and automated follow-ups run on those books, and AI on your own key is included in every paid plan.

Tally sells a perpetual licence per PC: Silver at ₹22,500 for one PC, Gold at ₹67,500 for multi-user use on a network, both plus 18% GST, with one year of Tally Software Services included. From year two a paid TSS renewal keeps updates and support, so the multi-year cost is higher than the sticker price alone suggests. There is also a subscription: ₹9,000 (Silver) or ₹27,000 (Gold) a year, or ₹750 or ₹2,250 a month, plus GST. Tally is not open source. Figures from Tally's own pricing page, read 12 September 2026.

OneYukti Community is free to self-host, open source, with the full source. The paid plans are a price per company per year by user band: ₹52,680 a year for up to 10 users and one company (₹439 per user per month at 10 users), every app in, hosting included, light users free. Launch price until 31 March 2027, list ₹65,880. Setup is by the hour at ₹799, from the apps you pick, fixed once scoped; accounting, stock and CRM is about 90 hours, ₹71,910. Discovery is free. More later comes in blocks of 10 hours, ₹7,990, that never expire.

Which costs less depends on scope. For accounting and GST alone, Tally's licence works out lower. For the whole company on the same books, Yukti is the price on the page and nothing else.

We are not going to pretend this is a close contest on market presence. Tally's own site says it enables nearly 2.5 million businesses worldwide (read 12 September 2026), most of them in India. It is the software nearly every Indian accountant, bookkeeper and CA has already used. That familiarity lowers hiring friction, training time, and the risk of finding local support when something goes wrong.

Yukti is a younger open source ERP, and the pool of trained implementers in India is smaller today. If keyboard-driven speed, offline billing and a large pool of Tally operators are what your business needs most right now, that is a real, honest reason to stay with Tally.
